Last year, 190,000 families were affected by hunger in the United States, up
from 25% in 2006. Working families and the elderly are continuing to choose
between food and utilities (54%), food and rent or mortgage (32%) and food
and medicine or medical care (39%).
They say numbers don't lie and the African-American community is facing the following dire poverty statistics:
We ask each chapter and brother in the Southeastern Region to support this initiative with your tax-deductible contributions. The region aims to raise at least $5,000 to the Lowcountry Food Bank through this project so your efforts will be greatly appreciated.

- 16.2% National unemployment rate for African Americans
- 17.0% National unemployment rate for African American males
- 20.0% South Carolina unemployment rate for African Americans
- 42.0% National percentage of homeless population that are African American
